Actor Ku Sung-hwan Opens Up About Vitiligo Struggles on 'I Live Alone'

Actor Ku Sung-hwan revealed his struggles with vitiligo on the October 10th episode of MBC's 'I Live Alone'.

During the episode, Ku disclosed that he has been dealing with vitiligo, a chronic skin condition, and expressed his concerns as the affected areas continue to expand. He shared that his condition worsened after filming a movie in Kazakhstan with fellow actor Lee Joo-seung. "That's why I apply a lot of sunscreen. The unaffected areas don't tan, making the condition more noticeable," he explained.

Ku mentioned, "During filming, makeup covers it up, but without it, you can see white patches around my eyebrows, nose, and mouth. All the hair turns white."

After a long time, Ku visited the hospital for a check-up in May, hoping for improvement. However, the doctor explained, "Vitiligo is a difficult-to-treat chronic condition. It occurs because the immune response destroys pigment cells, causing white patches."

Ku expressed concern about his current situation, noting, "I've gained weight since three months ago, and the affected areas have spread accordingly." The doctor advised, "Consistent management, sunscreen, cleansing, and moisturizing are crucial."

Before undergoing laser treatment, Ku humorously applied anesthetic cream like whipped cream, bringing laughter. His post-treatment relaxation time also provided comedic relief.

Meanwhile, Jeon Hyun-moo announced the upcoming 'Innocent Sports Day'. Jeon and Ku will each lead a team in the event. When asked about prizes, Jeon humorously declared, "I'll spend some money," raising anticipation.
