EXO's Suho is making a comeback with his fourth mini album, 'Who Are You'.
The album, featuring a total of seven tracks including the title track 'Who Are You', will be released on various music platforms at 6 PM on the 22nd. The music video for the title track, shot entirely on location in Australia, will also be unveiled on the SMTOWN YouTube channel, showcasing a road trip that embodies the spirit of freedom.
The title track 'Who Are You' is an alternative rock song that combines rough electric guitar and bass with a catchy melody. The lyrics capture the moment of parting, felt even without words, and are available in both Korean and English versions.
In addition to 'Who Are You', the album includes tracks like 'Golden Hour', which Suho participated in writing, 'Light The Fire', 'Medicine', 'Birthday', and 'Fadeout', offering a variety of rock music. Fans can also join Suho's countdown live on EXO's YouTube and TikTok channels at 5 PM today to hear more about the new songs and behind-the-scenes stories.
Suho Shares Insights on His Comeback
Q. How do you feel about your solo comeback?
- Even though it's my fourth mini album, I feel both nervous and excited. There were many challenging moments while preparing the album, but I'm satisfied and proud of it now. Over the past 16 months, I've had many experiences and learned a lot, which helped me focus on the details of this album. I hope listeners can feel the effort I've put into it.
Q. What sets this album apart from your previous works?
- My previous albums were introspective, focusing on questions like 'Who am I?' and 'What kind of artist am I?'. This time, I considered what listeners and EXO-Ls think of me and what music they want to hear from me. That's the biggest difference.
Q. How would you define the 'Suho genre'?
- I would say it's 'band sound with a twist'. I have a clear preference for music, and band sound is essential to the 'Suho genre'. While the music might seem dark and minor, I aim to convey hopeful messages, creating a sense of contrast.
Q. Can you introduce the title track 'Who Are You' in your own words?
- Initially, it might seem like a great song to play while driving, but as you listen more, you can feel the sadness and complex emotions of a breakup, making it more appealing. I'm curious how others will perceive it. The English version was a personal goal, inspired by my time in the U.S. earlier this year. I wanted to share a version that many can relate to, with lyrics and a melody that's easy to grasp.
Q. Any memorable episodes during the album production?
- For 'Medicine', I recorded it three times, spending about 14 hours in total. I was really drawn to this song and wanted to convey my emotions fully. I barely slept during that time. Also, filming the 'Who Are You' music video in Australia was a first for my solo album, and the weather was fantastic, reminiscent of London, which I love.
Q. What inspired you to write 'Golden Hour', and what's your favorite lyric?
- I love running at sunset, and it feels beautiful. The idea that time spent with a loved one is a 'golden hour' inspired the lyrics. My favorite part is 'You're my golden hour', as it captures the song's emotion.
Q. You're performing 'Medicine' solo for the first time. Why include a performance?
- While in the U.S., I realized that performance is integral to K-pop. I wanted to create a performance that suits my music, so I worked with a choreographer from April, studying various videos and developing choreography and music video ideas. It includes acting, so I'm curious how it will be received. It's a performance unique to Suho.
Q. Many fans started running because of you. Which album track suits running?
- I recommend 'Light The Fire'. It's a full rock track that will energize your run.
Q. How did EXO members react to your new songs?
- Chanyeol loved 'Medicine' and found the choreography intriguing. Kai enjoyed 'Who Are You', saying it was addictive and made him want to listen again immediately.
Q. Any message for EXO-Ls?
- I'm always grateful to EXO-Ls. While they love my music because it's mine, I hope they find songs that suit their tastes in this album. I'll continue to show new sides of myself and repay your love with better music and performances. I love you all!
