Disney+ is set to release its first original historical drama series, 'The Murky Stream,' on September 26, and has unveiled a teaser poster and trailer.
'The Murky Stream' is an action drama set in the Joseon era, revolving around the turbulent waters of Gyeonggang, where all money and resources converge. The series follows the destinies of individuals with different dreams striving to live with dignity in a corrupt world. The newly released teaser poster captures the rough currents of Gyeonggang (now the Han River area), symbolizing the corruption of power that darkens the once-clear waters. It features three determined youths, drawing attention with the phrase, "It's your fault for being born into a turbulent world," sparking curiosity about how these young people will navigate their fates.
The logo on the poster was crafted by renowned Korean folk singer-songwriter Jung Tae-chun, whose bold calligraphy hints at the unpredictable and grand narrative that awaits.
The teaser trailer reveals a Joseon era marred by corruption, where three youths pursue different forms of justice. The character Siyul (played by Rowoon) intrigues with his cryptic statement, "Life is a fierce dream. I will make them pay." As the calm of Gyeonggang is disrupted by a looming shadow, Jeongcheon (Park Seo-ham) voices his desperation, "Joseon is a tilted land," and "There's no place that doesn't reek of decay." Choi Eun (Shin Ye-eun) defiantly declares, "This is absurd!" as they face oppressive powers, vowing to fight back with the words, "Let's fight. In this weary world, even death is a blessing." The intense transformations of Rowoon, Shin Ye-eun, and Park Seo-ham, along with the appearances of Park Ji-hwan, Choi Gwi-hwa, Jeon Bae-soo, Kim Dong-won, and Choi Young-woo, heighten anticipation for the unfolding story. Director Choo Chang-min's masterful mise-en-scène further elevates expectations.
'The Murky Stream' is directed by Choo Chang-min, known for the 2012 hit 'Masquerade,' and written by Cheon Seong-il, marking his return to historical dramas after 14 years since 'The Slave Hunters.' The series stars Rowoon, Shin Ye-eun, Park Seo-ham, and Park Ji-hwan. It has been officially invited to the On Screen section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival.
'The Murky Stream' will premiere on Disney+ with the first three episodes on September 26, followed by two episodes released weekly, totaling nine episodes.
