Shin Eun-soo shares behind-the-scenes insights from the filming of 'A History of Confession.'
On the 25th, a production briefing for the Netflix film 'A History of Confession' was held at Hotel Naru Seoul MGallery in Mapo-dong, Seoul. Director Namkoong Sun and actors Gong Myung, Shin Eun-soo, Cha Woo-min, and Yoon Sang-hyun were in attendance.
Set in 1998, 'A History of Confession' is a coming-of-age romance about 19-year-old Park Se-ri, who is planning a strategy to straighten her lifelong complex of curly hair before making a life-changing confession. Her plans take an unexpected turn when she gets involved with a transfer student, Han Yoon-seok.
Shin Eun-soo plays Park Se-ri, a 19-year-old girl whose biggest concern is the curly hair she inherited from her father. She expressed, “After reading the script, I felt it was a story that brings happiness. It made me feel good, and I hope viewers will feel the same joy.” When asked if she fell in love with the script, she replied, “Absolutely,” showing her affection for the project.
In the film, Park Se-ri is a self-proclaimed expert in unrequited love, yet her confession success rate is 0%. Shin Eun-soo described her character as someone who believes her curly hair is the reason for her failed confessions but possesses a bright and positive energy.
Director Namkoong Sun explained, “Curly hair is the main event of this script. It's a time when uncontrollable curly hair becomes a significant complex. I thought it could raise the question, 'Do we really need to change it?' During teenage years, people are conscious of their appearance and struggle to accept themselves. Curly hair was a perfect setting to express that.”
Regarding her character's similarity to herself, Shin Eun-soo said, “I am a bit shy, but once I get comfortable, my true self comes out, which is similar to Se-ri. Although there are differences, I've been told we are quite alike.” Gong Myung added humorously, “Se-ri and her loveliness are similar,” eliciting laughter.
When asked about 1998, Gong Myung said, “I was 4 years old, and the rest of the friends weren't born yet.” Born in 2002, Shin Eun-soo remarked, “Everything was fascinating. The most surprising thing was realizing that fashion trends come full circle. The hip and baggy outfits in the film were trendy back then, just like they are now.”
'A History of Confession' will be available on Netflix starting the 29th.
