KBS Announcer Kim Jin-woong Faces Backlash Over Remarks About Senior Announcer Do Kyung-wan
KBS announcer Kim Jin-woong is facing criticism for comments made about his senior, announcer Do Kyung-wan, during a recent broadcast. Some viewers have even started petitions demanding his removal from the show, as the controversy continues to grow.

On the October 24th episode of KBS 2TV's variety show 'The Boss Has Donkey Ears,' Kim Jin-woong made a controversial remark while receiving marriage advice. Fellow announcer Um Ji-in mentioned Do Kyung-wan, who is married to singer Jang Yoon-jung, as an example of a well-married announcer. In response, Kim Jin-woong said, "I can't live like senior Do Kyung-wan. It might be disrespectful to the senior, but I can't live as someone's 'sub.'"

While some interpret Kim's comments as an attempt to entertain during the variety show, many criticized the language used, particularly the term 'sub,' which was seen as offensive.

Previously, discussions comparing the earnings of Do Kyung-wan, a former KBS announcer, and his wife, known as the 'Queen of Events,' have been used as material in some shows. However, these discussions were initiated by Do and Jang themselves, making them less controversial and more humorous to the public.

Critics argue that discussing Do Kyung-wan in his absence, especially in a negative light, was inappropriate. Some also believe that Um Ji-in, who brought up Do Kyung-wan, shares some responsibility for the situation.

Additionally, the lack of a close relationship between Kim Jin-woong and the Do-Jang couple exacerbated the situation, as they are not familiar enough to make such jokes.

Jang Yoon-jung publicly expressed her discomfort, sharing the article on her social media and stating, "It's not a joke or prank if the other party can't laugh. There is no 'sub' in a family."

Following Jang's response, Kim Jin-woong quickly issued an apology. On October 25th, he posted a lengthy message on his social media, saying, "I apologize for my thoughtless remarks that caused concern to seniors Do Kyung-wan and Jang Yoon-jung. I also apologize to viewers and fans." He added, "Senior Do Kyung-wan has always been kind to juniors during regional assignments, and I deeply regret causing trouble. I will ensure this mistake is not repeated."

Later, Jang Yoon-jung confirmed receiving a direct apology from Kim Jin-woong, stating, "I received a text from an unknown number, and he conveyed his apology after finding my contact." She added, "If someone apologizes, I believe we should accept it," indicating her acceptance of Kim's apology.

Despite Kim Jin-woong's apology, public sentiment remains negative. The KBS viewer petition board has seen posts expressing disappointment in Kim's remarks and behavior, with some calling for his removal from 'The Boss Has Donkey Ears' and even his resignation.

While many agree that Kim Jin-woong's comments were rash and inappropriate, he has sought forgiveness from the parties involved, and Jang Yoon-jung has accepted his apology, suggesting they do not wish for the issue to escalate further. Kim Jin-woong must take the criticism constructively and strive to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
