The curtain has closed on 'The Defects'. Despite the acting controversies surrounding Dex and Lee Na-eun, Yum Jung-ah led the drama to success, earning praise alongside Won Jin-ah.
The final episode of ENA's Monday-Tuesday drama 'The Defects', aired on Tuesday, the 12th, depicted the tragic downfall of Kim Se-hee (played by Yum Jung-ah) as she crumbled in front of her daughter Kim Ah-hyun (played by Won Jin-ah).
Se-hee executed a recall project that forced the 'The Defects' participants to eliminate their adopted children, creating intense tension. She chillingly declared to the guilt-ridden parents, "Of course, I'm doing it too. I'm going to kill my child today."
Meanwhile, Se-hee's other daughter Ah-hyun (played by Kim Ji-an) exposed to the First Lady (played by Han Soo-yeon) that Se-hee had been deceiving the presidential couple. The First Lady was shocked to learn that Se-hee was using the president's genes to create a child, bringing all of Se-hee's misdeeds to light and drawing attention to future developments.
Ah-hyun, along with Woo Tae-sik (played by Choi Young-jun), Joo-an (played by Ahn Ji-ho), and So-mi (played by Lee Na-eun), infiltrated Se-hee's campsite but were soon discovered by Jeong-hyun (played by Kim Jin-young) and other members of the organization. The children's and Tae-sik's desperate struggle for revenge on the grand stage set by Se-hee kept viewers on the edge of their seats.
The recall project site turned into chaos with the children's appearance. Seeing Tae-sik and the children subdued, Ah-hyun knelt before Se-hee, but the situation reversed when the police raided the campsite.
Surrounded by police, Se-hee sought help from the police chief and the First Lady, but both chose to abandon her. Jeong-hyun, knowing he would eventually be discarded, stayed loyal to Se-hee until the end, saving her before dying beside Ah-hyun.
Having lost everything, Se-hee clung to her desire to create the 'perfect child'. As she gathered culture fluid in the lab, Ah-hyun confronted her, saying, "Do you think it will be perfect? If I had known you were just this kind of person, I would have missed you less. I should have just hated and despised you."
She then added, "You lost. I love you, Mom," before putting down the gun and leaving, leaving Se-hee to collapse in despair. The tragic end of the mother-daughter duo was followed by the depiction of the children returning to their ordinary lives, leaving a lasting impression.
