On the October 8th episode of Channel A's 'My Golden Kids', a mother of a fifth-grade son shared her concerns. While her son is well-behaved at school and gets along with friends, he exhibits disrespectful behavior exclusively towards her, causing distress within the family.
Dr. Oh explained that the mother's excessive control might be harming the child, leading to confusion between love and control. She stated, "If the mother doesn't deeply understand herself, change is difficult. She believes her excessive control is love, but ultimately, the child may grow up fearing love."
The mother was overheard raising her voice while discussing the child with the father over the phone, which the child could hear. Observing this, Dr. Oh commented, "It seems the mother won't change easily because she equates excessive control with love."
When Dr. Oh asked, "Don't you think, 'I'm not overly controlling, I'm just pointing out mistakes'?" the mother admitted, "I do control because I want my child, my son, to listen to me."
She further advised, "Starting a relationship might seem terrifying. What if it turns into a war every day? What if they become enemies? This could lead to isolation."
This episode provided a meaningful message, encouraging parents and children to understand each other and rethink their expressions of love.
