The late actor was found deceased on the morning of the 4th in Cheoin-gu, Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province. A friend discovered him collapsed in his vehicle and reported it to the police.
The funeral hall was visited by numerous fellow actors and production staff, including Cha Tae-hyun, Jo Jung-suk, Yum Jung-ah, Namgoong Min, Ryu Seung-ryong, Park Sung-woong, and Shin Sung-rok, who paid their respects. Lee Jong-hyuk, after visiting the funeral hall, wrote, "It's so tragic. Did you really hate the world that much? I'm disappointed in your weakness. I never expected this. You always treated me well. Rest in peace, senior from Seoul Institute of the Arts, class of '89. You said you were good at golf but never beat me. We should have played one more round."
Ryu Seung-soo also expressed his sorrow, "I can't forget the bitter expression on your face when you hugged me quietly after your performance a week ago. You've worked hard all this time! Now rest in peace! It's not long since Seon-kyun left us."
Moon Hee-kyung lamented, "You were such a kind and hardworking actor. It's so tragic. I'm sorry I didn't call you more often. Rest in peace, Young-kyu."
Jang Hyuk-jin wrote, "You must have been so scared and worried. I should have called you. Goodbye. You were such a good person to me. Let's meet again someday. Rest in peace."
Earlier, Song Young-kyu was charged with driving under the influence after driving approximately 5 kilometers from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu in Yongin City while intoxicated on June 19th. This incident was reported a month later on July 25th, leading to his withdrawal from the play 'Shakespeare in Love' and affecting his roles in the upcoming SBS drama 'Try: We Become Miracles' and the ongoing ENA drama 'Eye Shopping.'
