Lee Dong-wook and Lee Sung-kyung rekindle their romance in the drama 'The Good Guy'.
In the episode aired on the 18th, JTBC's drama 'The Good Guy' showcased the reunion of Park Seok-cheol (played by Lee Dong-wook), who unwillingly became a gangster, and his first love Kang Mi-young (played by Lee Sung-kyung), who disrupts his life. The first episode recorded a viewership rating of 3.0%, while the second episode saw a slight increase to 3.2% (Nielsen Korea, nationwide paid households).
The episode opens with Park Seok-cheol bleeding after being stabbed by a mysterious man. Reflecting on his past, he says, "I knew it would end like this. I wanted to be a poet. I wanted to be a novelist," as the scene transitions to his past life. Once a literary enthusiast, Park Seok-cheol secretly attended creative writing classes, dreaming of becoming a novelist. However, reality was starkly different. As the eldest grandson in a family of gangsters, he was an active member of the organization. Desperate to leave, he secures a promise from his right-hand man Oh Sang-yeol (played by Han Jae-young) that he can leave if he resolves the redevelopment issue in Zone 3.
An unexpected reunion awaited Park Seok-cheol as his childhood first love, Kang Mi-young, appeared before him. Kang Mi-young, still an aspiring singer, filled Park Seok-cheol's life from that day forward, and the feeling was mutual.
After reuniting with Kang Mi-young, Park Seok-cheol's briefly peaceful life is disrupted by news of his missing sister Park Seok-gyeong (played by Oh Na-ra). With loan notices piling up, Seok-cheol and his sister Seok-hee (played by Ryu Hye-young) head to a gambling den where Park Seok-gyeong is rumored to be, and after a chaotic encounter, the three return home.
Determined to leave the organization, Seok-cheol tackles the redevelopment issue in Zone 3 but faces strong opposition from the tenants' committee chairman (played by Park Won-sang). However, after saving him from a fire, public opinion shifts, and the news reaches rival boss Kang Tae-hoon (played by Park Hoon). Meanwhile, Kang Mi-young, auditioning for a singing competition, encounters Kang Tae-hoon, hinting at new developments.
The episode ends with a revelation of Park Seok-cheol's past, where he resents his father Park Sil-gon (played by Chun Ho-jin). Forced to become the head of the family during his high school years, Seok-cheol reluctantly joined the gang, a decision that changed his life forever.
