TripleS Member Shen Hui Sparks Controversy with 'One China' Remarks

Shen Hui, a Chinese member of the multinational girl group TripleS, has found herself at the center of controversy following her comments supporting the 'One China' policy.

On July 11, Shen Hui took to the fan communication platform 'From' to express her views, stating, "Macau has always been a part of China. The same goes for Hong Kong and Taiwan," openly supporting the Chinese government's stance. The 'One China' principle asserts that the People's Republic of China is the sole representative of China, and that Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau are integral parts of a unified China.

In response to the backlash, Shen Hui defended her position, asking, "Why should I be scolded?" and "Did I say anything wrong?" She further stated, "If you disagree, don't subscribe to my From." Her remarks have sparked outrage among fans, who argue that her comments disregard the group's multinational identity and show a lack of consideration for her fellow members.

TripleS is a diverse group consisting of 17 Korean members, 4 Japanese members, 1 Thai member, 1 member with dual Vietnamese and Taiwanese nationality, and 1 Chinese member. Shen Hui's comments have been particularly sensitive given the presence of Nien, a member from Taiwan, in the group.

Shen Hui first gained public attention in 2021 through her appearance on Mnet's 'Girls Planet 999: The Girls Saga.' She has been active as the 15th member of the 24-member girl group TripleS since 2023.
