Liam Gallagher, a member of the British band Oasis, is facing significant backlash after using a racially insensitive term.
On October 1st, Gallagher posted the word 'Chingchong' on his X (formerly Twitter) account. This term is known to mock the accent of Chinese people and is considered a racial slur against Asians in Western countries.
After the post went public, a fan pointed out, "You shouldn't use that word." Gallagher responded dismissively with "Why?" and "Don't worry about it." He later deleted the post and stated, "No offense was intended. I love you all. I don't discriminate against anyone."
Despite his explanation, criticism continues to mount. The backlash is particularly intense as Oasis is set to tour in Asia, including South Korea and Japan. Fans have expressed their disappointment, with some commenting in English and Chinese, "I can't understand this."
Oasis is scheduled to perform in South Korea on October 21st at 8 PM at the Goyang Sports Complex, marking their first concert there in 16 years. They will then perform at the Tokyo Dome in Japan on October 25th and 26th.
Oasis had previously disbanded in 2009 due to a feud between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher. They pursued separate musical projects until officially reuniting last August.
