The latest episode of JTBC's weekend drama 'Good Boy' delivered a shocking ending as Lee Sang Yi's character suffered a gunshot wound and plunged into the sea, leaving viewers in suspense. The dramatic scene, featuring Park Bo Gum's character's desperate cries, propelled the show's ratings to 5.7% nationwide and 5.6% in the metropolitan area, according to Nielsen Korea.
In the ninth episode, aired on the 28th, the special task force led by Yoon Dong Joo (played by Park Bo Gum) faced a critical blow during Min Joo Young's (played by Oh Jung Se) surprise operation in the Middle East tunnel. Despite their fierce battle against the cartel, the team lost all evidence of drug materials, and Ji Han Na's (played by Kim So Hyun) whereabouts became unknown. The meticulous operation left no clues, disabling communication towers, CCTV, and black boxes.
Amidst the crisis, a glimmer of hope emerged. Ji Han Na, who had secretly infiltrated the trailer, left behind personal items and a glove with a crucial clue—the license plate number of the cargo truck transporting the evidence. Yoon Dong Joo and Kim Jong Hyun (played by Lee Sang Yi) followed these traces to intensify their investigation.
However, Min Joo Young's schemes worsened the situation. A staged terror attack injured In Sung Market's owner, leading Chief Jo Pan Yeol (played by Kim Eung Soo) to order a strict response. With all forces deployed for terror suppression, the special team found themselves without support, and their investigation was at risk of being halted by the chief's pressure.
The team relocated their operations to a pawnshop owned by Kim Geum Nam (played by Park Chul Min), who had insider knowledge of In Sung City's underworld. They successfully captured Gwang Se (played by Jung Jae Won), who had set a trap for the team under Min Joo Young's orders. Gwang Se revealed that Min Joo Young was about to deal with the Japanese Yakuza, a task previously handled by the imprisoned Geum Tokki (played by Kang Gil Woo). The team narrowed down the transaction location based on Geum Tokki's past activities.
Meanwhile, Ji Han Na, who had infiltrated the drug cargo ship, was shocked to see a cat emblem on Leo's (played by Go Jun) Tokarev pistol. This discovery linked Leo to her father's murder case, involving a Russian-made Tokarev and the Russian mafia's Black Cat. However, she was soon discovered by Min Joo Young and trapped in a container with a corpse.
Just before the container door closed, Ji Han Na revealed to Leo that the police officer killed in the 2008 Russian mafia shooting was her father. A flashback showed Leo shooting her father, and he responded to her revelation with a cryptic smile, hinting at the unfolding revenge saga.
Trapped in the container, Ji Han Na used a phone she had secretly taken during a fight with Min Joo Young's gang to call 112, leaving a clue about her location near In Sung Bridge. The special team, using the recording and Geum Tokki's activity area, identified her location on the Victory cargo ship at Geumpo Shipyard and launched a rescue mission.
Yoon Dong Joo and Kim Jong Hyun found Ji Han Na on the ship but were surrounded by Min Joo Young's men. Yoon Dong Joo fought off the attackers to create an escape route, while Kim Jong Hyun helped Ji Han Na towards the exit. However, Leo blocked their path with a gun. Kim Jong Hyun took a bullet meant for Ji Han Na and fell into the depths, leaving viewers in shock as Yoon Dong Joo rushed towards him.
The episode also revealed that Kim Jong Hyun had previously injured his ankle while saving Ji Han Na, leading to a fencing accident at an international competition. This trauma still haunts him, causing his body to freeze at the sight of sharp objects. His unwavering dedication to Ji Han Na evoked sympathy, and viewers are eager to see if he can overcome his past and move forward, as suggested by the episode's title, 'Allez' (a fencing term meaning 'start').
The next episode of JTBC's 'Good Boy' airs on Sunday, the 29th, at 10:30 PM and will be available to global audiences via Amazon Prime Video.
