Choi Woo-sung Draws Inspiration from 'Kingmaker' for Role in 'Running Mate'

Actor Choi Woo-sung revealed that he repeatedly watched Seol Kyung-gu's speech scene in the movie 'Kingmaker' to hone his acting skills.

On the 24th, an interview was held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, with the cast of the TVING original series 'Running Mate,' including Hong Hwa-yeon, Yoon Hyun-soo, Choi Woo-sung, and Lee Jung-sik.

'Running Mate' is a high-teen political drama about No Se-hoon (played by Yoon Hyun-soo), who becomes the subject of ridicule after an unexpected incident and is nominated as a vice-presidential candidate in the student council election, navigating through various schemes to win.

Choi Woo-sung, who plays the passionate character and student council president candidate Yang Won-dae, expressed his excitement, saying, "It's been almost two years since we finished filming, and I was worried it might never be released. I'm so happy and thrilled that it's finally out."

At 28 years old, Choi Woo-sung took on the role of a high school student. He shared, "Although I played a role much younger than my actual age, I wasn't burdened because I had experience wearing a school uniform in a previous short drama." He added, "Instead of focusing on the age difference, I concentrated on understanding what Yang Won-dae thinks and the sense of responsibility he feels."

To bring more authenticity to his character, Choi Woo-sung watched Seol Kyung-gu's speech scene in 'Kingmaker' multiple times. He explained, "Yang Won-dae's final speech scene is one of the most important moments. To perform it well, I analyzed the speed and tone of Seol Kyung-gu's speech in 'Kingmaker' by watching it repeatedly."

In conclusion, Choi Woo-sung remarked, "In 'Running Mate,' every character pursues their own interests to win the election, causing harm to others in the process. Watching this, viewers might find it intriguing to ponder 'Who is the worst person?'"
