Actress Hong Hwa-yeon reminisced about her experience auditioning for 'Buried Hearts,' where she was cast against a 100-to-1 competition.
On the 24th, an interview was held at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, with the cast of the TVING original series 'Running Mate,' including Hong Hwa-yeon, Yoon Hyun-soo, Choi Woo-sung, and Lee Jung-sik.
Hong Hwa-yeon, who plays the role of Yoon Jung-hee, the top student with a rational personality, expressed her excitement, saying, "I'm thrilled that the project we filmed in 2022 is finally being released. Following 'Buried Hearts' and 'Your Taste,' I'm excited to showcase my diverse range through 'Running Mate.'"
After filming 'Running Mate,' Hong Hwa-yeon shared her experience preparing for the 'Buried Hearts' audition. She revealed, "After finishing 'Running Mate,' I went to audition for 'Buried Hearts.' Transitioning from playing a student to an adult role was concerning. Honestly, I didn't expect to get the part and lacked confidence. However, I approached the audition with the mindset of just being myself, and fortunately, I was accepted."
When asked about her efforts to portray Yoon Jung-hee, Hong Hwa-yeon said, "I cut my hair short and wore glasses, which I had never tried before." She added, "In the early part of the series, Jung-hee is socially awkward and grumpy, but as the story progresses, she becomes an endearing character. I focused on expressing that transformation."
Hong Hwa-yeon also shared her thoughts on wearing a school uniform for the role. She said, "It was my first time wearing a school uniform for a project, and I loved it. My family and friends said it reminded them of my younger days, which was heartwarming."
In conclusion, Hong Hwa-yeon commented, "'Running Mate' is a cheerful political teen drama that showcases the passionate focus of students on elections. While some might miss the romantic elements, I hope viewers appreciate this unique charm."
