On the 24th, the Supreme Court's third division, led by Justice Lee Heung-gu, dismissed the appeal of BJ A, who was charged with violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (extortion), thereby upholding the original sentence of seven years in prison.
BJ A was indicted and detained for threatening Kim Jun-su from September 2020 to October 2023, extorting a total of 8.4 billion won. It was revealed that A recorded private conversations with Kim and threatened to distribute them on social media.
The first trial court stated, "The defendant exploited the victim's weaknesses over an extended period, extorting a large sum and causing significant mental distress," sentencing her to seven years. The second trial upheld the same sentence and ordered the confiscation of one mobile phone and one smartphone used in the crime.
The Supreme Court dismissed A's appeal, stating that the reasons did not meet the requirements under the Criminal Procedure Act, thus finalizing the seven-year sentence.
