Lee Dong-wook Returns with 'The Nice Guy' After 'The Divorce Insurance'

Lee Dong-wook is making a comeback with the drama 'The Nice Guy.'

Set to premiere on July 18th, 'The Nice Guy' will kick off JTBC's Friday series. Directed by Song Hae-sung and Park Hong-soo, and written by Kim Woon-kyung and Kim Hyo-seok, the drama is produced by Hive Media Corp and High Ground. On June 23rd, the production team released a teaser poster featuring Lee Dong-wook as Park Seok-cheol.

'The Nice Guy' is an emotional noir that follows Park Seok-cheol, the eldest grandson of a gangster family, who harbors unexpected tenderness, and his first love, Kang Mi-young, played by Lee Sung-kyung, who dreams of becoming a singer. The drama promises to deliver heartfelt emotions and warm laughter as it explores the passionate love and dreams of these two characters.

The series is helmed by directors Song Hae-sung, known for films like 'Failan' and 'Boomerang Family,' and Park Hong-soo of 'Lost.' Writers Kim Woon-kyung, known for 'Yuna's Street' and 'Seoul's Moon,' and Kim Hyo-seok of the film 'Opposition' join forces to ensure a high-quality production.

As Hive Media Corp's first drama, known for producing films like 'Spring in Seoul' and 'The Man Standing Next,' expectations are high. The cast includes trusted actors such as Lee Dong-wook, Lee Sung-kyung, Park Hoon, Oh Na-ra, Ryu Hye-young, and Cheon Ho-jin, whose performances are anticipated to be emotionally intense.

The previously released character teaser video hinted at Park Seok-cheol's fate, who aspired to be a novelist but became a gangster. The newly unveiled teaser poster depicts his solitude, sitting alone in an empty subway with a vacant gaze. The scars on his face suggest a life of relentless battles. The phrase 'Even if my life is a little ruined, it's okay' adds intrigue to what Park Seok-cheol is willing to protect at all costs.

Lee Dong-wook plays Park Seok-cheol, the reluctant heir to a gangster family. Despite his steadfastness, he decides to reclaim his life and pursue his childhood dream of becoming a writer like Hemingway. His life takes another turn when he has a fateful reunion with his first love, Kang Mi-young.

The production team of 'The Nice Guy' stated, "Amidst the trials of harsh reality, Park Seok-cheol's journey to find new life and love will offer heartwarming laughter and poignant empathy." They added, "Viewers can look forward to Lee Dong-wook's performance, which will range from intense action to deep emotional melodrama."

'The Nice Guy' will premiere on July 18th at 8:50 PM and will air two consecutive episodes every Friday on JTBC.
