The highly anticipated film 'Omniscient Reader' has unveiled character stills featuring Chae Soo-bin, Shin Seung-ho, Nana, BLACKPINK's Jisoo, and Kwon Eun-sung, promising a captivating performance from the ensemble cast.
'Omniscient Reader' is a fantasy action film based on a novel that ran for over a decade. The story unfolds as the fictional world of the novel becomes reality on the day it concludes, with the sole reader, Kim Dok-ja, teaming up with the novel's protagonist, Yoo Joong-hyuk, and other allies to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. The film boasts a production budget of approximately 30 billion KRW.
Chae Soo-bin, known for her compelling performances in 'The Phone Call', 'The Fabulous', 'Police University', 'Hijacking', and 'Sweet & Sour', takes on the role of Yoo Sang-ah, a colleague of the protagonist who faces the new reality alongside him. Chae expressed her affection for the character, stating, "Sang-ah makes the most realistic decisions among the diverse characters, yet she remains endearing. She is a character who helps others to step up." Her deep emotional portrayal is said to have brought the character to life.
Shin Seung-ho, expanding his acting repertoire with roles in 'Pilot', 'Weak Hero Class 1', 'Alchemy of Souls', 'D.P.', 'At Eighteen', and 'A-Teen', plays Lee Hyun-sung, a soldier whose strength and defense are crucial in times of crisis. Shin shared his excitement for the film, describing his character as "adrenaline-pumping." His commanding physical presence and precise action sequences are expected to captivate audiences.
Nana, who has consistently made her mark in films like 'Mask Girl', 'Glitch', 'Confession', and 'The Swindlers', returns to the screen as Jung Hee-won, a character saved by the protagonist and fighting for justice. Nana explained her choice of the role, saying, "The story of ordinary people coming together to save the world was inspiring." She also highlighted the challenging action scenes, particularly the exhilarating wire action, which she dedicated herself to mastering.
BLACKPINK's Jisoo, building her filmography with 'Newtopia', 'Snowdrop', and 'The Exorcist's Secret', portrays Lee Ji-hye, a high school student who looks up to Yoo Joong-hyuk as her mentor. Jisoo aimed to capture the character's quick adaptability and keen judgment, noting that many of her scenes were shot solo, which she saw as an opportunity to showcase the character's personality.
Child actor Kwon Eun-sung, recognized for his roles in 'Concrete Utopia', 'Hi Bye, Mama!', and 'When the Camellia Blooms', plays Lee Gil-young, a boy who communicates with insects and serves as the film's mascot. Kwon described Gil-young's charm as "cute and confident," sharing a behind-the-scenes story about how his signature pose was developed with the director's guidance.
'Omniscient Reader' is set to hit theaters nationwide in July.
