K-pop Star Yuqi of i-dle Gifts Parents a Car Amidst Group's Rebranding and Contract Renewal

Yuqi from the K-pop group i-dle recently revealed that she gifted her parents a car.

On the October 17th episode of MBC's variety show 'The Manager', the members of i-dle made an appearance.

i-dle, formerly known as '(G)I-DLE', has recently rebranded and announced that all members have renewed their contracts, surpassing the notorious '7-year curse' in the K-pop industry.

Following their contract renewal, the group has shifted to a one-manager-per-member system due to increased individual schedules. Minnie’s manager commented, “People think we renewed because we get along well, but it’s actually quite different. It’s amazing how we manage to stay as a team despite our differences.” Soyeon’s manager added, “I call them ‘chaotic’.”

Soyeon, who has been actively involved in songwriting and composing, has registered 88 songs with the association. Host Hong Hyun-hee asked, “How much do you earn from royalties? Can you compare it to the price of cars?” Soyeon replied, “There are many misconceptions about royalties. Honestly, they’re not that high.” She added, “Even with songwriting, earnings from China are higher,” and shifted the focus to Yuqi.

In the studio, there were calls for Yuqi to disclose her earnings. Yuqi shared, “Until our 7th year, all earnings, including individual activities, were split equally. After renewing our contracts, we switched to individual settlements. Recently, I proudly bought a car for my parents with my earnings.”

Previously, Soyeon had revealed on a web variety show, “At my peak, I earned 1 billion KRW (approximately $840,000) a month from royalties. There were also times when I earned as little as 100,000 KRW (approximately $84).”
