Comedian Lee Gook-ju recently shared updates about her life in Japan and addressed some misunderstandings.
On the 15th, a video titled "Vlog of My Mom Visiting My Apartment in Tokyo" was uploaded to Lee Gook-ju's channel.
In the video, Lee invites her mother to her 8-pyeong (approximately 28 square meters) studio apartment in Tokyo. Her mother was amused by the small refrigerator, commenting, "It's cute. We didn't even have this when we were living on our own in the '70s."
Upon seeing the simple living room, Lee's mother remarked, "Is this all?" to which Lee responded, "It's an expensive place... but the view is great. There's even a luxury bed." Her mother jokingly added, "Everything's here except for one thing—a man," which brought laughter.
Lee Gook-ju expressed gratitude to her subscribers, saying, "Many of you are curious and supportive of my life in Japan. The first video already surpassed 500,000 views." She also addressed comments suggesting she could afford this lifestyle because of her wealth, stating, "While I'm not without means, I've worked very hard."
Addressing misunderstandings about her studying abroad due to wealth, Lee clarified, "I'm not living in luxury. I even sold my camper van before coming here and have to tighten my belt. I can't afford a Japanese tutor, so I'm learning Japanese through ChatGPT. To pursue what I want, I have to make sacrifices."
Previously, Lee had shared the reasons for her move to Japan on her channel, garnering significant attention. She stated, "I came here with the mindset of saving money and enduring hardships like I did when I was a rookie. Even if I fail, it won't be a life-ruining failure but a valuable experience."
