BTS Jin “I wanted to hide my charm, but it's all out in the open”...Singing Jin makes a comeback today (16th) [Interview]

"I hope you feel the overwhelming emotions while listening to 'Echo'."

BTS's Jin is set to release his second mini-album 'Echo' simultaneously worldwide on the 16th at 1 PM. The album explores the theme of 'resonance', capturing various moments of life as they spread in different forms.

While his previous work 'Happy' focused on conveying happiness, 'Echo' aims to deliver more sincere and profound empathy. Jin reflects on emotions and situations that everyone encounters at least once, such as love, friendship, and crossroads in daily life, expressing them through seven tracks.

The title track, 'Don't Say You Love Me', portrays the irony of a crumbling relationship where love makes it hard to let go. Despite dealing with complex emotions, the melody and Jin's vocals remain subtle and delicate, enhancing the song's resonance.

Jin will connect with fans through 'Jin 'Echo' Comeback Live: PLAY TIME' on the global fan platform Weverse at 5 PM. Prior to this, he shared a Q&A through his agency, Big Hit Music.

BTS Jin “I wanted to hide my charm, but it's all out in the open”...Singing Jin makes a comeback today (16th) [Interview]

Q. How do you feel about returning with your second mini-album 'Echo' after six months?
I've been appearing on variety shows recently, but as a singer, I wanted to showcase my music and performances. Although I sometimes felt like taking a break, that's why I kept pushing forward. (laughs) I'm happy to present 'Singing Jin' with my mini-album 'Echo'.

Q. Why did you choose the album's composition and the title track 'Don't Say You Love Me'?
I composed the album with songs that are great for performances without limiting the genre. It's important for listeners to enjoy themselves during performances. However, I wanted the title track to be easy to listen to. 'Don't Say You Love Me' may have a slower tempo compared to other songs, but I was confident it would be the most comfortable to listen to.

Q. Any behind-the-scenes stories about writing the lyrics?
I tend to maintain the initial feeling that comes to mind when I hear a song. While working on 'Journey with the Clouds', I watched a lot of animations. For 'Nothing Without Your Love', I imagined myself performing on stage. Perhaps that's why I often got emotional and choked up while working on it, making it difficult to sing for a while.

Q. How was your chemistry with actress Shin Se-kyung in the 'Don't Say You Love Me' music video?
It was my first time acting with an actress, so I felt very awkward and clumsy. The tension made it hard to perform as imagined. Nevertheless, I'm grateful to Shin Se-kyung for her passionate performance. You might notice my awkwardness if you look closely. (laughs)

Q. Any memorable moments from the music video shoot?
On the day we shot the parking lot scene, it was extremely windy. My hair was blowing so much that it was impossible to act. We ended up changing the hairstyle from the original plan, and I'm quite satisfied with the fresh image it presented.

Q. When was the last time you felt an 'echo'?
I was a guest at Coldplay's concert in Korea last April, and the audience's singing left a strong impression on me. I hope to have such an opportunity myself someday.

Q. Any anecdotes with Coldplay?
When I heard they were performing in Korea, I wanted to collaborate again, and thankfully, our feelings aligned. They're truly amazing. (laughs) Even during their world tour, they carried the 'Wootteo' character doll I gifted them. I thought it had been through a lot, so I gave them a new one.

Q. Why are you actively appearing on variety shows besides your music activities?
I want to show my face to fans quickly and frequently. I tried to hide my charm, but it was all revealed through variety shows. (laughs)

Q. How do you hope this album resonates with listeners?
I love music that moves me deeply. I hope many people feel the same emotions while listening to my new album. It would be even more delightful if they imagine what it would be like at a concert.

Q. Any final words for ARMY worldwide?
Dear ARMY, I'll be coming to see you soon, so please wait a little longer. I love you!
