Kim Jun-seo, who recently began his acting career with the BL drama 'Secret Relationship,' is set to make his third attempt at idol stardom by joining Mnet's 'Boys 2 Planet K' (hereafter 'Boys 2 Planet 2').
According to TenAsia's report on the 10th, Kim Jun-seo, formerly of the group WEi, will appear on 'Boys 2 Planet 2,' which is scheduled to air in the latter half of this year. WEi, a six-member group that debuted in 2020, was formed by Oui Entertainment and led by Kim Yo-han, who won first place on 'Produce X 101' in 2019.
All six members of WEi have roots in survival programs. Jang Dae-hyeon and Kim Dong-han appeared on 'Produce 101 Season 2,' Kang Seok-hwa on 'YG Treasure Box' and 'Produce X 101,' and both Yoo Yong-ha and Kim Jun-seo on 'Under Nineteen.' Born in 2001, Kim Jun-seo was the youngest member and a visual standout alongside Kim Yo-han, earning the affection of fans.
Kim Jun-seo debuted in 2019 through MBC's 'Under Nineteen,' finishing in 9th place and joining the group 1THE9. After the group's activities ended, he re-debuted with WEi in October 2020. If successful on 'Boys 2 Planet 2,' this will mark his third debut.
In February, he took his first steps as an actor in the Watcha original 'Secret Relationship,' a passionate romance BL genre work depicting the intertwined emotions of four men, where he played a leading role. While it was anticipated that he would focus more on acting given his striking visuals, his decision to return to an idol audition program is seen as an unexpected move.
Oui Entertainment announced on the evening of the 9th via their fan cafe that "Kim Jun-seo will temporarily suspend activities with WEi due to personal reasons." They added, "We ask for your continued love and support for Kim Jun-seo and WEi."
According to a previous media report, the production team of 'Boys 2 Planet 2' plans to gather all participants for the first filming on the 11th, followed by a level test to evaluate the applicants' skills on the 12th. The program will feature fierce competition, with participants ranging from debut-experienced members of groups like VERIVERY and DKB to trainees with no prior broadcast experience.
'Boys 2 Planet 2' marks the return of the series two years after 'Boys Planet' aired in 2023. Given the success of the previous season's group, ZEROBASEONE, which achieved five consecutive million-seller records, this new season is highly anticipated.
