Korean Celebrity Chef Baek Jong-won Halts All Broadcasting Activities Amid Controversies
Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea and a well-known television personality, has announced a complete halt to his broadcasting activities.

On the morning of the 6th, Baek uploaded a video titled 'Starting Over from the Beginning' on his YouTube channel.

In the video, Baek stated, "I have previously apologized through written statements and shareholder meetings regarding the numerous issues and criticisms raised this year." He continued, "I have taken time for self-reflection and have been examining and reorganizing the company to address various problems, which is why I am speaking out now."

Baek Jong-won is currently facing multiple allegations, including violations of the Country of Origin Labeling Act, Livestock Products Sanitation Control Act, Food Sanitation Act, and Food Labeling and Advertising Act. In response, Baek said, "We are identifying and improving the root causes of all issues, including quality, food safety, and hygiene at festival sites."

He declared, "All problems lie with me. I am committed to reforming the organization with a determination as if cutting through bone and changing the corporate culture through communication with employees."

Due to these controversies surrounding The Born Korea, franchisees are experiencing a decline in sales. Baek expressed, "The most heartbreaking thing is the situation of the franchise owners," and promised, "We will implement additional comprehensive support measures for each brand."

He also acknowledged concerns about balancing his role as a CEO of a publicly listed company with broadcasting activities, as well as recent allegations of 'broadcasting abuse.' Baek apologized, saying, "If my words or actions have hurt anyone, it is my responsibility and fault."

Baek concluded, "From now on, I will cease all broadcasting activities except for the programs currently being filmed. I will focus on the growth of The Born Korea and the development of our franchise owners as a businessman, not a broadcaster."

Everything is my responsibility, and it is because of my shortcomings. I will review everything and improve the areas that are lacking. I am sorry once again for causing concern."

However, the comments section, which could serve as a platform for advice and criticism from netizens, citizens, and franchise owners, has been disabled.

Meanwhile, Baek Jong-won married actress So Yoo-jin in 2013, overcoming a 15-year age difference. The couple has three children: a son, Yong-hee, born in 2014, a daughter, Seo-hyun, born in 2015, and another daughter, Se-eun, born in 2018.
