Unexpected Emergency Unites Medical Residents in 'Resident Playbook'

In the latest episode of tvN's weekend drama 'Resident Playbook,' aired on the 3rd, Go Yoon-jung and Jung Jun-won faced an unexpected emergency that led to their growth as medical professionals.

Episode 7 showcased Oh Yi-young (played by Go Yoon-jung) and Goo Do-won (played by Jung Jun-won) performing their first surgery without the guidance of their professors, alongside residents from other departments, delivering a heartwarming experience.

The obstetrics department had been in constant conflict with anesthesiology, emergency medicine, and pediatrics over operating room availability, patient calls, and neonatal unit space. With limited resources and unpredictable delivery timings, obstetrics residents often had to negotiate, persuade, and even pressure other departments to secure necessary space.

However, an incident forced these usually competitive departments to collaborate. An emergency case arrived with a foreign patient who needed immediate delivery, and she spoke neither Korean nor English, adding to Oh Yi-young's anxiety.

Anesthesiology's Ham Dong-ho (played by Kim Yi-jun), emergency medicine's Park Jun-seok (played by Seo Yi-seo), and pediatrics' Park Moo-gang (played by Yoo Hyun-jong) quickly rallied to support Oh Yi-young, who was unexpectedly leading her first surgery. With their encouragement and the timely arrival of chief resident Goo Do-won, the team successfully delivered the baby.

Despite the initial challenges, Oh Yi-young and Goo Do-won remained calm and managed to deliver the baby. When the baby's heartbeat was slow to stabilize, Park Moo-gang worked tirelessly to revive the newborn, who eventually cried out, bringing relief to everyone involved. The residents, having overcome a significant hurdle together, shared an emotional embrace.

After the ordeal, Ham Dong-ho showed his caring side by offering Oh Yi-young a calming pill and shielding her from the sudden rain with an umbrella. He surprised her further by asking, "Would you like to have a meal together?"

Goo Do-won observed this interaction, hinting at potential changes in his relationship with Oh Yi-young. Viewers are left wondering how Ham Dong-ho's presence might affect Oh Yi-young's feelings for Goo Do-won.

Meanwhile, Pyo Nam-kyung (played by Shin Si-a) was tasked by the faculty to recruit intern Tak Ki-on (played by Cha Kang-yoon) to the obstetrics department, which had struggled with recruitment. Despite Tak Ki-on's lack of interest in obstetrics and a mix-up involving Lee Ik-soon (played by Kwak Sun-young), Pyo Nam-kyung's efforts to bring him on board continue to draw attention.
