Choi Minho, a member of SM Entertainment, is making waves with his compelling presence in the play 'Rendezvous'. Minho made his theatrical debut last year with 'Waiting for Godot'.
The play 'Rendezvous', written and directed by Yossef K. Junghan (Kim Junghan), tells the story of 'Taeseop', a scientist engrossed in rocket development, and 'Jihee' (played by Kim Hari), who seeks freedom through dance. Their chance encounter leads them to confront their own wounds and emotions. The two-person play captivates audiences with its experimental stage direction and stellar performances.
Choi Minho takes on the role of Taeseop, portraying a character who appears cold and rational on the surface but harbors past wounds and loneliness. His convincing performance leaves a strong impression on the audience.
Throughout the 100-minute performance, Minho skillfully navigates the intense emotional journey of his character, from a thrilling first encounter with Jihee, the daughter of a local Chinese restaurant owner, to the gradual healing of their wounds. He masterfully conveys a range of emotions, including joy, anger, anxiety, loneliness, and sadness.
In scenes where he expresses his character's state of mind through gaze, eye contact, and movement without dialogue, Minho's nuanced and restrained performance draws the audience into a deep sense of immersion. The unique stage design, reminiscent of a fashion show runway with a treadmill in the center, allows him to engage closely with the audience, delivering his character's inner transformation with authenticity.
Choi Minho's performances have consistently sold out, earning him enthusiastic acclaim. Following his praised performance alongside Lee Soon-jae in 'Waiting for Godot', anticipation is high for his future endeavors.
The play 'Rendezvous' runs until November 11th at the Jayu Small Theater in the Seoul Arts Center.
