According to Taiwanese media outlet ETtoday, Barbie Hsu's niece, Ellie (Siwon Xu), daughter of actress Xu Xidi, was studying in the United States at the time of her aunt's passing and was unable to be by her side. This has reportedly left Ellie in a state of deep depression for over two months.
Recently, Ellie shared two photos on her social media, capturing attention with a message that seemed to reflect her efforts to find peace: "The brightest people always make me look twice." The photos included a candid street shot of Ellie smiling with her eyes closed, wearing a short top and jeans, and an emotional image of a starry sky.
Fans were relieved to see Ellie's update, as she had not posted on social media since her aunt's death. Many interpreted her message as an expression of longing for her aunt. Supportive comments flooded in, with fans saying, "Your aunt will always love you," "You are not alone, Ellie," and "Those who love us are always with us."
Barbie Hsu was known to have cherished her niece Ellie. In a past variety show, she shared a story about a blue dessert Ellie chose, saying, "When Ellie starts elementary school, I will teach her the meaning of Tiffany Blue and gift her a Tiffany necklace."
Singer and actress Bai Bingbing recently spoke in an interview about the profound grief experienced by Barbie Hsu's family. She mentioned a conversation with Hsu's mother, Huang Chunmei, who expressed concern over DJ Koo's daily visits to Jinbaoshan to honor Barbie. Bai Bingbing added, "Huang Chunmei worries that DJ Koo and Xu Xidi haven't overcome the loss, but I am more concerned about the mother. Young people may find solace over time, but the elderly often dwell on their sorrow longer."
Barbie Hsu passed away on February 2nd from acute pneumonia caused by the flu while on a family trip to Japan for the Lunar New Year. Her funeral was held on March 15th at Jinbaoshan Rose Garden in Taiwan. DJ Koo carried her ashes to the burial site, staying by her side until the end. Known for his muscular physique, DJ Koo has visibly lost weight and appeared swollen from tears and lack of appetite since her passing.
DJ Koo initially intended to honor Barbie's wish for a tree burial but ultimately decided to lay her to rest at Jinbaoshan, a renowned cemetery where many famous stars, including Teresa Teng and James Wong, are buried.
In tribute to Barbie, DJ Koo is working on a statue of her, collaborating with a designer friend. Media reports state, "DJ Koo is capturing his favorite image of Barbie in the statue as a final gift." The statue is set to be erected in the 'Famous People Stone Forest,' approximately 400 meters from the Jinbaoshan Rose Garden, and is expected to be completed within the year.
