Jung Woo-sung was interviewed by Ten Asia about the movie 'Spring in Seoul' (directed by Kim Seong-su) at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul at 11 am on the 21st.
On this day, Jung Woo-sung was asked about the awesomeness of 'Spring in Seoul' and hesitated for a moment before continuing. “Coolness is not what I think, but what a third party evaluates,” he said.
“The moment you become conscious of what’s cool, it’s not cool. The moment you think, ‘Wow, this scene is cool’ or ‘I guess it’ll be cool,’ all the cool disappears. All you have to do is immerse yourself in that character and be faithful to that feeling. Next, the audience sees it and evaluates it. It's like that. If an actor goes around conscious of stardom and says, 'I'm a star,' you hear people say, 'He's a star.' People will quickly realize that it's cool. “I think so.”
In this 'Spring of Seoul', the scene where Jung Woo-sung crosses the barricade and goes to the rebel camp is considered the highlight and main message of the movie. He said, "Lee Tae-shin is a character who just overcomes each and every step even if the path he goes on is difficult. I thought that the scene should not look solemn or cool. I went because I just wanted to go, and I thought I might not be able to meet him." An explanation was added.
‘Spring in Seoul’ depicts the Seoul military revolt on December 12, 1979, which changed the fate of the Republic of Korea. It depicts the 9 hours of intense conflict between Chun Doo-gwang's (Hwang Jung-min) rebel army and Lee Tae-shin's (Jung Woo-sung) suppression army. Through this work, Jung Woo-sung is being evaluated as having taken a step forward in terms of acting. Jung Woo-sung showed off his inner strength as Lee Tae-shin, a strong soldier who must fight to the end even though he knows he will lose.
It opens on the 22nd.
