‘Today’s story that is open and harsh’. Reporter Kim Ji-won of Ten Asia harshly criticizes entertainment and broadcasting industry issues from a difficult perspective.

MBC's long-running entertainment show 'I Live Alone' is once again attracting attention from viewers, to the point where it is being called its 'Nth prime'. Viewership ratings are showing an increase. But now is the time to be cautious. It is necessary to look back on what the original intention was for ‘I Live Alone’ to be broadcast.

Recently, 'I Live Alone' took the opportunity to rebound in viewership ratings with the 'Palmyu Family' episode. It consists of an episode that shows the appetite of Jeon Hyun-moo, Park Na-rae, and Lee Jang-woo. 'Palm Oil Seminar' Episode 475 was 8.3% (December 23), Episode 476 was 9.2% (December 30), Episode 477 was 8.8% (January 6), and the previous episode, Episode 474, was 6.8% (December 16). Viewership ratings jumped by about 2-3% compared to Sunday.

In the broadcast, Jeon Hyun-moo, Park Na-rae, and Lee Jang-woo of 'Farm Uses' showed their endless appetite. They earned the nickname ‘Farm Uses’ from a broadcast in June last year. When Lee Jang-woo participated in the recording with an unusually swollen face, Jeon Hyun-moo asked, “Didn’t you eat ramen yesterday?” Park Na-rae also said, "Before filming, didn't the camera director ask Lee Jang-woo to wipe oil on his face? That oil is 100% palm oil." Code Kunst asked, “Is palm oil in ramen?” Na-rae Park and Hyun-moo Jeon answered, “That’s right.”

At the 2022 MBC Broadcasting Entertainment Awards, 'Fam You's' Jeon Hyun-moo, Park Na-rae, and Lee Jang-woo also received the Best Couple Award. After receiving the award, Jeon Hyun-moo expressed his feelings, saying, "I felt like the only thing I did was eat, so I wonder if I can receive this. I think I gained a lot of sympathy because I enjoyed it."

As Jeon Hyun-moo also admitted, the only thing they did on a recent broadcast was 'eat.' Jeon Hyun-moo, Park Na-rae, and Lee Jang-woo held a 'Palm Oil Seminar' in Dalat, Vietnam under the name of 'Palm Oil Expedition'. The seminar to explore the world of new tastes was only in name, but in reality it was a trip to enjoy and eat to the fullest. They ate 20 hours and 28 types of food over a 30-hour stay of 2 days and 1 night.

While eating a late-night snack at the hotel, Na-rae Park felt sorry and headed to the bathroom. Na-rae Park, who came out of the bathroom after doing some errands, said, “I don’t think I should use it for a while.” When Lee Jang-woo tried to enter the bathroom to get ramen water, Park Na-rae stopped him. In response, Jeon Hyun-moo asked, “What did you put on the wall?” Due to excessive consumption of late-night snacks such as cake, ramen, and alcohol, the next day, Na-rae Park's body swelled to the point where the double eyelid line from surgery 10 years ago disappeared. Lee Jang-woo was no slouch either.

Na-rae Park, who was riding her bike around the lake to empty her stomach for her next meal, was bothered by the 'toilet signal'. Na-rae Park eventually stopped by a temple she saw while passing by and did some errands. Jeon Hyun-moo and Lee Jang-woo also collected wet tissues that they received from the plane and gave them to Park Na-rae. I even checked in advance whether there was a toilet seat in the bathroom for Park Na-rae, who had a sore leg. Na-rae Park explained the frequent ‘toilet signal’ by saying, “Because the people are short, the intestines are also short.”

Nevertheless, their gluttony did not end. The three people bought 120,000 won worth of sauce at the supermarket. After eating happily, Park Na-rae cut off the ribs of the dress she was wearing with scissors with the help of Jeon Hyun-moo, saying, "The seam becomes a blade and cuts into the flesh." On their way back to Korea, they were stopped at the airport security checkpoint and had to be inspected because they had too many sauces. At the end of the seminar, Jeon Hyun-moo boasted, “The level of conversation we had was high,” and “We went from palm oil to extra virgin olive oil.”

The mukbang continued in the broadcast on the 6th. On this day's broadcast, which featured a sundae soup episode outside of the 'Palm Oil Seminar', Jeon Hyun-moo, who won the grand prize, visited his favorite sundae soup restaurant in Yangpyeong to relieve his hangover from the awards ceremony after-party. Jeon Hyun-moo made a video call to Lee Jang-woo and talked about sundae soup.

‘I Live Alone’ is not a ‘taste journey’ but a taste ‘journey’

The pleasure of gastronomy brings happiness. However, their palm oil seminar was not a ‘taste tour’ but rather a ‘taste tour’. Menstrual phenomena are also natural, but there was no need for viewers to know in real time whether Park Na-rae was urinating or not.

‘I Live Alone’ celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Rather than showing the bathroom conditions and group eating tours of single-person household stars, it is time to reexamine the original intention of showing the honest view of single life, wise life know-how, and university philosophy on living alone.
