Webtoon writer Gian84 confessed honestly about his income.
On the 11th, Kian84 posted a video titled ‘Meeting with Friends’ on his YouTube channel ‘Life84’.
In the released video, Kian84 said, "I donated the proceeds from my solo exhibition. It is said that it was used for friends who want to do art but cannot do it due to circumstances. If there is a story that I can tell to those friends as someone who lived life first, I would like to communicate it." He explained the background of starting mentoring.
He met students and was asked, ‘Why did you do art?’ Kian84 said, "I couldn't study in elementary school. While watching Totoro and Evangelion, I thought, 'I have to do that later,' so I went to art school. I drew webtoons for 12 years."
He also said, "I had low self-esteem. I couldn't grow taller. In a way, I was prey. But I got compliments on my drawings, so I gained some self-esteem."
Even after becoming a webtoon writer, I had concerns. Kian84 said, "I have a strong sense of inferiority, and when I was doing webtoons, I was full of inferiority complex. While looking at other works, I thought, 'My comics are much more interesting,' and 'We'll wait and see.' I did it with my competitive spirit as the driving force," he said. "'Fashion King' came out in a month. “It became number one in overall views. Later on, I couldn’t keep it and was rejected, and that was also painful,” he said.
There was also a question about income. Kian 84 said, "I make a lot of money. I should have gone out to look at buildings, right?" and "I drew to eat well and live well. I took a worldly approach, saying, 'I will buy wealth and fame through painting.' As hard as it is, there is a lot to take away."
