Actress Ji-woo tried her hand at acting as a professional character for the first time through SBS' 'Police Station Next to the Fire Station'.
We met with actor Ji-woo, who recently finished season 1 of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Police Station Next to the Fire Station', at the Hankyung Ten Asia interview room in Jungnim-dong, Seoul.
'Police station next to the fire station' is a work depicting the joint response of police and fire departments who are the first to be deployed to the scene when a disaster, accident, or crime occurs. Season 1 ended last month with a viewer rating of 10.3%.
Jiwoo played the role of Bong Anna, a police officer on the Taewon Police Station's forensic investigation team. Anna Bong is interested in various investigative equipment and cutting-edge investigative techniques, and is skilled in both forensic investigation and digital forensics.
Jiwoo expressed her thoughts, "We all worked hard together to film season 1 last summer, and I am proud and relieved to see it aired. I think filming season 2 will continue until May."
The reason I joined this production was because I had a relationship with director Shin Kyung-soo, who was in charge of directing the play. Jiwoo said, "I did the play 'Dressing Room' in 2021, and it was directed by director Shin Kyung-soo. He looked after me well at that time, so I was thankful that I was able to participate in this drama."
This drama is more meaningful to Jiwoo because “I played a lot of student roles before, but this is my first time playing a professional role.” Jiwoo said, “Thank you for trusting and entrusting me with an attractive role.” Recalling the time of casting, he said with excitement, "It was my dream to play a professional role. I really wanted to try it at least once."
Since it was a professional role, I paid more attention to the preparation process. Jiwoo said, "I looked for works with professional female characters. I also watched movies about female hackers and watched related videos on YouTube. I thought about how I could look more brilliant and more attractive. As I got older, I “It seems like “The scope of the role has broadened. I have expectations and excitement that it will expand even further in the future,” he said.
Although I did not meet an actual police officer, I participated in firefighting training with the actors. Jiwoo said, "We all went together and received firefighting training. Even holding a hose was difficult. I realized the hardships of firefighters and police officers. Isn't there a serial arson incident in episode 11? If something like that actually happened, I wouldn't have time to rest or even eat." “I thought I would work after eating,” he said, expressing his gratitude toward firefighters and police officers.
In order to emphasize the character's professionalism, the hairstyle was changed and re-filmed during filming. Jiwoo said, "Anna has an 'otaku' side to her. She is a friend who is crazy about work. At first, she had a hippie perm and long hair with her bridge dyed. However, after the first filming, the director seemed to be unable to see the character's characteristics clearly, so she "After filming, he suggested I have short hair. Before that, I also thought it would be okay to have short hair. “So I cut it short and re-filmed it to match the season,” he said about the behind-the-scenes details of the shoot.
