The reason why I started taking pictures of taxi license plates

The story of detectives who did not miss even the smallest tip and who eliminated the ills of our society unfolded in 'Brave Detectives 2'.

In the 16th episode of T-Cast E Channel's 'Brave Detectives 2', which aired on the 10th, Detectives Jeon Seong-min and Dong-hyeon Yoo of the Chungbuk Police Agency, Detectives Cho Sang-hyeon of the Gangneung Police Station, and Detectives Kwon Oh-ryong of the Daegu Central Police Station appeared and opened their investigation notes.

The first case dates back to when detectives Jeon Seong-min and Yu Dong-hyeong were working at the Cheongju Sangdang Police Station. In February 2015, a person who was being investigated as a victim reported, "Whenever a person I know drinks, he says, 'A few years ago, I helped his brother kill someone and bury him, and it's painful to think about that time.'"

As a result of the investigation, the younger brother who confessed to being drunk had not only his own older brother, but also people around him who had disappeared. This is a woman who lived with his older brother, and she disappeared from the neighborhood about four years ago. The detectives who meet the first informant again hear another story from him. It was an additional report that when families gather for the holidays, there are family fights over 'fields'. Profiler Kwon Il-yong raised suspicions, saying, “Isn’t there something that shouldn’t be in the field?”

Human bones were discovered deep under a field, and DNA analysis matched those of the missing woman. After two years of secret investigation, the case surfaced, and detectives urgently arrested the brothers. The older brother, who denied the crime, admitted it when presented with a photo of the body. My older brother said that he had a fight with his lover over a male issue, and that he hit him in a fit of anger, and when he woke up, he was dead. Although the situation was suspicious, the cause of death could not be directly confirmed because the body was old.

In the end, the cause of death could not be determined, and the older brother was sentenced to five years in prison in the first trial, and the younger brother was sentenced to probation. Because the murder charge could not be proven, he was only punished for assault and death and hiding the body. Even this, the brothers appealed, and in the meantime, the victim's father settled for 50 million won, wrote a petition asking for leniency for the two brothers, and received three years in appeal. It was a result that left me devastated and shocked.

The second story told by detectives Cho Sang-hyun and Kwon Oh-ryong was an incident that made us all tremble with fear on the way home. In August 2007, two female coworkers in their 20s lost contact after work on Friday. There was a 112 call record in the call log on the day of the disappearance. It was just a one second call.

Through the credit card company, we found a record of 1 million won in cash being withdrawn using the missing person's card at a convenience store in Songpa on the day of the disappearance. Meanwhile, a missing person was found dead along the Han River in Goyang City.

Detective Cho saw information on the autopsy room information board that an unidentified woman in her 20s was found along the Han River in Gimpo. The condition was similar to that of the previous missing person, but it turned out that she was another missing person. Regarding the two people meeting again in the autopsy room, Detective Cho couldn't continue saying, "How scary was that final journey, in the same autopsy room, right next to you?" Both died from cervical compression asphyxiation.

Afterwards, the missing person's cell phone was found in the grass on Gangbyeonbuk-ro. The police picked up cigarette butts from where the cell phone was found and referred it to the National Forensic Service. We also conducted a communications investigation, which was unfamiliar at the time. Phone numbers that were in the same time zone as the victim's movements were tracked, and the confirmed number of calls was 100,000. As a result, three numbers matching the victim's movements were found. The owners of the numbers all live together in Songpa-gu, and detectives arrested two suspects.

A shocking fact was revealed immediately after the arrest. There was one more victim killed by them. The main culprit, Mr. Park, abused the contracted taxi he drove to commit violent crimes. The three people shocked everyone by saying that they decided to commit crimes until they saved up 30 million won to open a late-night snack restaurant. They murdered three people and the amount they extorted was 1.05 million won. All three received life sentences. The detectives' persistence helped solve the ills of contracted taxis.

After this incident, there was something that all citizens took with them on their way home: the habit of taking a photo of a taxi's license plate to confirm that they returned home safely.
