Kim Young-im, a Korean traditional musician, confessed that in the past, she was on the verge of death due to panic disorder and depression.
In TV Chosun's 'Star Documentary My Way' broadcast on the 5th, the life story of Korean traditional music godmother Kim Young-im, who celebrated her 50th debut anniversary, was revealed.
On this day's broadcast, singer Han Hye-jin said, "If a person is too pretty, they say she looks like a doll. She was a doll. I saw her with tremendous energy, power, and passion when she went on stage. There are many people who are good at singing, but there are many people who can use the word master singer. “There are not many singers. Just hearing my sister’s voice is healing,” she said.
Kim Seong-hwan said, “A voice full of soul. My brother had a really good time getting married.” In response, Han Hye-jin said, “The entire nation will recognize it.” Kim Seong-hwan said, “Brother, you should know that,” and “Brother, you know that you’re getting married safely, right? Please take care of yourself,” sending a video letter that made people laugh.
Kim Young-im said, "I entered the world of Korean traditional music at the age of 19. I wanted to put aside my studies and sing, and was completely absorbed in Korean traditional music. My mother taught me classical dance rather than singing. While doing classical dance, I was introduced to our sound. I thought, 'There is such a sound, too.'" “I was surprised,” he confessed.
Kim Young-im married comedian Lee Sang-hae at the age of 28. He said, “The person who helps me more than anyone else is my husband.” Lee Sang-hae said, "Being stubborn and fighting when talking about performances is also for Kim Young-im's sake. I myself don't know my mistakes, right? Kim Young-im doesn't know that she is wrong. That's why I keep pointing them out. As I do this, I get better. “He explained.
Lee Sang-hae attracted attention with the music he released for his wife in 2021. Regarding this, Lee Sang-hae said, "Isn't there something called a surprise show in the entertainment industry? It's not my job, but I thought I wanted to sing a song for my wife on her birthday. I made one and did it." Lee Sang-hae sang the song directly in front of Kim Young-im.
Lee Sang-hae expressed his gratitude, saying, “Honey, I love you. Thank you.” Kim Young-im showed tears. Kim Young-im said, "What I'm really happy about is that my husband is also very healthy, so I think he's the one who should be by our side no matter what I nag. If I don't think my husband is around, shouldn't I take pictures alone? He's the one next to me who says such nice things to me and sometimes scolds me. “Is there anything else besides this husband?” she responded.
Daughter-in-law Kim Yun-ji said to her mother-in-law Kim Young-im, “Of course, there are many good things, but difficult times are always with people.” Kim Young-im confessed, “There were a lot of terrible things that happened over the course of 50 years, and sometimes I got hurt so much by people that I developed panic attacks and couldn’t go out for more than a year.”
Kim Young-im said, "I got married at the age of 28. I lived as the youngest child in the house and the responsibility as the eldest daughter-in-law seemed heavy on my shoulders at the time. I worked hard and performed a lot. As the energy consumption and mental conflict overlapped, panic disorder and depression became as severe as they are now. “I was in a situation where I needed psychiatric treatment. I could barely sleep for several months. And I refused to eat. I couldn’t eat. I was so weak that I couldn’t even get up and walk. I think I was on the path to death at that time. “I went through something really difficult,” he explained.
Kim Young-im shed tears while telling the story of her mother-in-law who passed away last year. She said, "(During my marriage), my husband never took my side. My father was a feudalist and was extremely dutiful to his mother. At that time, I had a really hard time and whenever something happened at home, no matter what happened, I told my mother that I had done something wrong. “I’m human too, so I don’t think I did anything wrong, but now that I think about it, I just have to say, ‘I’m sorry, mother,’” he said.
