Producer Jo Sung-hyun expressed his feelings through 'I Am God', saying that he wanted to save at least one more person from a cult.
On the 10th, a press conference for the Netflix documentary 'I Am God: The People God Betrayed' was held at the Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul. Producer Cho Seong-hyeon, who directed the production, attended.
‘I Am God: The People God Betrayed’ is a Netflix documentary series that tracks the ‘Messiahs’ in modern Korean history and the events and people behind them. JMS dealt with the true nature of Jeong Myeong-seok. JMS President Myungseok Jeong was arrested and indicted on charges of committing sexual violence against two female believers on 17 occasions from 2018 to 2019 (quasi-rape, quasi-rape, quasi-rape, forcible molestation, and forcible molestation), and was indicted in the 12th Division of the Daejeon District Court Criminal Agreement (Presiding Judge Sang-hoon Na). ) is on trial. Previously, President Chung was sentenced to 10 years in prison on similar charges in April 2009 and was released in February 2018.
When it was said that it would have been difficult to recruit the victims, PD Cho agreed. He said, “It was especially difficult to recruit female victims. “There were cases where my husband didn’t know, and because I, the producer, am a man, there were many cases where I didn’t hear from women,” she confessed. He continued, “We met first without an interview, and gained trust over a long period of time. After that, they told us the terrible story without hesitation. “After the documentary came out, I expressed regret that it wasn’t more specific, but I liked it when it came out.”
When asked if there was any unrest within religious groups, he said, “From the producer’s perspective, I wanted more people to watch the documentary. I thought it would be nice to have at least one or two people inside to look at it. There are cafes where post-JMS believers come in. Many people left the group after watching this documentary. There are people among insiders who are agitated and reacting. I think we stimulated them so that they could actually choose to withdraw. “Personally, I find it rewarding,” he said.
