Kim Nam-gil revealed his thoughts on TV's original series 'Island' and his role as 'Ban' in an interview with American media outlet Vanity Fair.
Vanity Fair reporter Lorenza Negri said Kim Nam-gil, the main character of 'Island', is a tough guy with a soft heart and a Korean Tom Cruise, and praised Kim Nam-gil's acting, which freely plays comedy, action, and villain roles. Didn't spare anything.
Kim Nam-gil said that he has something in common with the character 'Ban' in 'Island', saying, "They resemble a tsundere who is hard on the outside but soft on the inside." He added, "Van may seem like a villain, but no. If you understand the character's motivation, mind, and emotions, you can see that they are not actually evil characters."
In response to the question, 'Aren't villains the trend these days?' Kim Nam-gil said, "It is true that it is an attractive role. Villains have more freedom in their expressions. For this reason, there seem to be some viewers who enjoy interpreting characters." . Regarding the action scenes in 'Island', he said that he did 98% of the action scenes himself and that he learned the sport of Taekwondo when he was young, so it was not difficult for him to act in the action scenes.
In 'Ireland', Kim Nam-gil completed his own character by expressing the complex psychological changes of a half-human and half-youkai character with delicate acting. In addition, he once again proved himself as an 'action master' by performing not only spectacular chases, high altitude and sword martial arts, but also fantasy actions using digital characters.
Meanwhile, the Netflix original series 'Thief: The Sound of the Sword', as well as the movies 'Guardian' and 'Night Travel' are scheduled to be released.
