Hyunmi, family and fans devastated by sudden breakup

Singer Hyunmi (real name Kim Myeong-seon) passed away on the morning of the 4th. Age 85.

According to the police, Hyunmi collapsed at her home in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul at around 9:37 am on this day, and the fan club president Mr. Kim (73) found her and reported it to the police. Mr. Kim was taken to a nearby hospital, but is said to have been pronounced dead.

On this day, a close associate of Hyunmi told Ten Asia, "Mr. Hyunmi was healthy and energetic, but everyone is in a state of shock because she passed away suddenly. We are taking steps to set up a funeral at Chung-Ang University Hospital's funeral hall."

Regarding the bereaved family, he added, "He has two sons and lives in the United States, so I understand that he is rushing back home after hearing the news."

Born in Pyongyang in 1938, the deceased entered the entertainment industry through the stage of the 8th U.S. Army in 1957. He debuted in 1962 with 'Night Fog' and gained great popularity, becoming one of the best singers of his time.

She married the late 'Night Fog' composer Lee Bong-jo after a romantic relationship, but it is said that Hyun-mi's married life was not smooth as Lee Bong-jo was a married man at the time and had children.

Apart from his private life, he continued to collaborate with Lee Bong-jo and produced hits such as 'All My Love', 'Two People', and 'Lovers' one after another. Hyeonmi was called a diva on par with Lee Mija and Patty Kim. In particular, he developed a close relationship with Han Myeong-sook, who was his rival, and relied on him during his lifetime.

In 2007, they released an album marking the 50th anniversary of their debut, and also held Korea's first 50th anniversary concert. At the time, he said, “I will sing until my voice comes out,” and “I want to disappear cool and proud,” showing great passion and pride as a singer.

It is even more unfortunate because he was in good health and performed well on KBS 2TV's 'Immortal Songs' until last year.

With Lee Bong-jo, he had two sons, Lee Young-gon and Lee Young-jun. Lee Young-gon is a singer under the stage name Goni, and Lee Young-jun is married to actor and singer Won Jun-hee. In addition, singers Noh Sa-yeon and Noh Sa-bong, sisters, and actor Han Sang-jin are the deceased's nephews. It is said that they, too, are unable to hide their despair at the sudden news. The same goes for fans and the public.

The deceased's funeral will be held at the funeral hall of Chung-Ang University Hospital, and the funeral and burial location have not been determined.
