A medical accident occurred on the first day of the pilot opening of the regional trauma center in 'Romantic Doctor: Teacher Kim 3'.
In episode 5 of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3', which aired on the 12th, the first day of the pilot opening of a regional trauma center was depicted.
Doldamz was drafted to the trauma center and decided to work as a team. Although they worked together for a long time at Doldam Hospital, it was their first time working together without Master Kim (played by Han Seok-gyu). In addition, they were not yet familiar with a trauma center larger than Doldam Hospital. Seo Woo-jin (played by Ahn Hyo-seop) expressed his dissatisfaction with Professor Cha Jin-man (played by Lee Gyeong-young) becoming the center's director and decided to remain in the emergency room at Doldam Hospital.
Meanwhile, due to a car accident, two adult men and a teenage boy entered the trauma center as patients. Two adult men were in critical condition, suffering from cardiac arrest and in a coma, while a teenage boy was conscious and had minor injuries. The medical staff continued to perform CPR on one of the two adults and decided to perform surgery on the other. Seo Woo-jin, who was working in the emergency room, remembered Master Kim's teachings that patients should be the top priority, and participated in the trauma center surgery that only Cha Jin-man entered.
The teenage boy lay in the observation room waiting for a doctor. Oh Myung-sim (played by Jin-kyung) checked the boy's condition and said that a doctor would come soon. Oh Myung-sim asked what his relationship was with the two adult men who were in the accident together, and the boy said he was his mother's secretary. The boy, who was conscious, even spoke to his mother on the phone.
The regional trauma center was busy treating two adult men in critical condition. One person eventually died, and the other person who underwent surgery fortunately survived. But in the meantime, the teenage boy lost his mind. Cha Eun-jae, who belatedly discovered that the teenage boy was not breathing, shouted “arrest” and urgently performed CPR. Jeong In-soo (Yoon Na-mu), who seemed to have rushed in while treating other patients, looked devastated.
Coincidentally, the teenage boy's mother was a provincial council member responsible for deciding and executing the budget for the Doldam Hospital Trauma Center. The provincial council member was devastated and angry when he saw his dead son. The provincial assemblyman said, “My son died. He died because the doctors neglected him,” and said he would file a criminal complaint. Cha Jin-man, who came back after the surgery, said, "I'm sorry about your son's situation, but it's not neglect, it's just that he was pushed out of priority. In an emergency, it's not the order of arrival, but the order of emergency first." He added, "The doctor has never once asked about the status of the secretaries since coming here." “Why were the secretaries accompanying my son when he was busy doing activities?” he countered. Cha Jin-man said, "If you want to file a criminal complaint, do it. I'll see you in court. Instead, you will have to answer all of the questions I asked earlier."
Cha Jin-man took care of the Doldam medical staff, saying, "You are the ones doing your best to protect the lives of patients in critical condition. No one can blame you. I will not let anyone blame you."
The provincial council member, who was leaving with his dead son, said to Director Park (played by Kim Joo-heon), "That person would have done well in politics. He was hit hard. Don't worry. There will be no criminal charges filed against the hospital. Instead, we will have to prepare for an all-out war against medical malpractice." He expressed his intention to reveal this until the end. Jeong In-soo shed tears of guilt and said to Master Kim, "I missed that patient. That's why he died. It was my fault. I will take full responsibility."
