Actor Park Hae-il was invited as a new member of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which hosts the Academy Awards (Oscar Awards).
AMPAS announced on the 28th (local time) the list of 398 invitees for new members this year.
Park Hae-il, who played the role of Hae-joon in the movie 'Decision to Break Up' (director Park Chan-wook), is the only Korean actor to be on the list of new recruits. Writer Jeong Seo-kyung, who wrote 'Decision to Break Up', also received a new member offer as a screenwriter.
Writer Jeong Seo-gyeong participated in writing scripts for several works by director Park, including 'Decision to Break Up' (2022), 'Kind Lady Vengeance' (2005), 'The Bat' (2009), and 'The Handmaiden' (2016).
If Park Hae-il and Jung accept the Academy's invitation, they will have the right to vote for the Academy Awards as full members.

Choi Woo-shik, Jang Hye-jin, Cho Yeo-jeong, Lee Jeong-eun, and Park So-dam, who appeared in the 2020 movie 'Parasite', were invited at once. Yoon Yeo-jeong, who won the Best Supporting Actress Award in 2021 for’Minari’, became an official member of the Academy that year.
