Actor Joo sang-wook has finalized his cast in director Shin Dong-yeob’s new thriller.
Joo, who rose to stardom after starring in MBC “The Supper of the Gods” this year, will be playing one of the male characters alongside rapper and actor Yang Dong-keun in “The Punisher” [translated title].
An official from Joo’s agency, Madin Entertainment, told the magazine this morning the film will begin shooting in December and hit local theaters in the first half of 2013.
“The Punisher” will show how people can get affected by bullying, whether they were the victims, perpetrators or stood silent witness.
To deliver the message, director Shin shows Joon-seok being severly bullied by Chang-shik when they were in high school. Due to Chang-shik’s continuous harrassment, Joon-seok’s girlfriend commits suicide and his life begins to go downhill. The two run into each other 15 years later and Joon-seok decides to take his revenge on his alumnus.
The forthcoming film is expected to receive more attention as bullying has been one of the most serious issues in Korea for the last few decades.
In the meantime, Joo has another film on his plate for next year, tentatively titled “Joseon Beauty Trio.”
